Thanks to Ruth Denton from Albury Club in Australia for doing an incredible 4 layouts out of her October kit. Please click the links to the larger image.
Layout 1 - Route
Photos Used: Two 6’x4’ and one 5’x7’ (the pictures need to be able to be cropped)
- The first thing you need to do is to create a template in order to cut your photos to the correct shape. Use tracing paper to trace around the outline of the ‘Route’ sign. Then create a cardboard template with this – I made mine out of a cereal box.
- Lay your photos onto this cardboard and attach with some temporary adhesive. Flip the cardboard over and trim photos to template. Remove photos from cardboard and attach to ‘Route’ paper.
- Cut out 3 shapes or words from the ‘Are we there yet?’ paper and adhere them somewhere on the page. I used a triangular placement.
Layout 2 - Trip
Added Items: Acrylic Stamps – Autumn Leaves ‘You are here’ and Staz On Black Ink, black zig writer for journaling
- I free hand drew a template for the journaling block for this layout. I cut one copy on white cardstock and then cut one slightly bigger out of black cardstock to act as a mat.
- Stamp two arrows at the top of the journaling block and then cut the word ‘trip’ from the ‘Are we there yet?’ paper. Now it is all ready for your journaling.
- Choose 8 of your fragment pieces and using the glossy accents attach them to the ‘Are we there yet?’ paper. Remember you don’t have to have the entire picture fit under a fragment. Sometimes looks really effective to just get the middle of a shape. For example I have used the middle of one of the compass shapes, the pattern under the word passport etc. Use the glossy accent to attach to the paper (as per the technique notes), once dry trim around the fragment with scissors.
- Once you have attached your photos and journaling block you can play around with how to arrange your fragments. I wanted them to provide a pattern to link both photos and draw the eye to the centre of the page as I felt my eyes were being drawn to the journaling block as it was the lightest part of the page.
- Attach fragments to the page with a little glossy accent.
Layout 3 - Destination
Photos used: One 5’x7’ and two 6’x4’
- The first thing you need to do is to create a template in order to cut your photos to the correct shape. I measured the diameter of the circle, it is 11 inches. I used a compass to create a template, you could get your die cutting machine (Cricut, Robo etc) to cut it or alternatively use the tracing paper method used in the Route layout. Then create a cardboard template with this – I made mine out of a cereal box.
- Lay your photos onto this cardboard and attach with some temporary adhesive. Flip the cardboard over and trim photos to template. Remove photos from cardboard and attach to ‘Destination’ paper.
- Cut out the compass from the ‘Are we there yet’ paper. Cut the N and S out separately and use a fragment to draw attention to them. Also attach a fragment to a couple of the stars on the ‘Are we there yet’ paper.
- I cut out the word Adventures from the ‘Are we there yet’ paper and attached that and my stars to the joining line between the photos to hide the line.
Layout 4 - Good Times
- First mat your photos together on a piece of black cardstock.
- Then mat this onto a piece of white cardstock.
- Choose images from the ‘Are we there yet’ paper (route sign, large clock, inside detail of compasses, 3 stars, arrow strip and good times phrase).
- You will need a small strip of the plain side of the ‘Are we there yet’ paper. I used a strip 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches high.
- Attach the arrow strip to the edge of your plain strip.
- Attach the strip to the base of your photo mat.
- Attach images where you think the look most effective. I wanted to leave white (red) space on this layout and so I grouped my images around the sides of the photos. If you aren’t into leaving white space you could add a title on the right hand side of the layout.
